Prayers, Beliefs and Practices will be a regular part of the YFF curriculum. These will be taught in the classroom and should be reinforced and taught at home as well. Sacraments & Prep Work
Baptism Baptism Sessions are required prior to scheduling a Baptism date for your child. Upcoming Baptism Sessions: Baptism I (1st Child) - December 15, 9am & March 16, 2019, 9am Baptism II (2nd Child) - February 10, 2019 & June 23, 2019 following 8:30am Mass Baptism Refresher (3+ Child) - April 7, 2019 *Date subject to change* Please call the office to register for Baptism Session. Once completed, please contact the Parish Office to set a Baptismal date for your child.
First Reconciliation & Eucharistic Stay Posted
St. Athanasius Confirmation Program: The Sacrament of Confirmation completes the Sacrament of Baptism by sealing one with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is to be a personal commitment to the candidate’s faith life and involvement in the life of the parish; accepting its responsibilities and rewards. Your reception of this Sacrament will demonstrate your commitment to Christ and his people alongside of preparing you to confidently and publicly profess that decision.
Guidelines and Requirements: The candidates for Confirmation MUST be:
Baptized and have made a commitment to the Catholic faith.
Properly instructed in all matters of the Catholic faith.
At least 15 years of age at the time of Confirmation.
An active participant in the Don Bosco School program OR attending Religious Education class on a weekly basis.
An active participant in the Confirmation Preparation Program.
The Confirmation Preparation Program consist of the following:
Six catechetical session with the purpose of preparing one for the Sacrament.
Outside for class time to learn designated prayers, finish assignments, how to use the Bible, the proper sequence of the Mass and the form for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Entrance into the parish Confirming of Faith process (see below).
Interviews with the Pastor prior to receiving the sacrament.
Parental participation and support for the candidate in the Confirming of Faith process.
Attendance at mass on weekends and Holy Days of Obligation.
20 hours of service.
Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation as a Group.
The final decision to accept or not accept the candidate for the Sacrament of Confirmation is made cooperatively be the candidate, the parents, the catechist and the pastor.
The Confirming of Faith process Goal: That the candidate will continue his/her ongoing process of developing a faith-love relationship with Jesus Christ, the Lord, within the context of the faith community.
